The practicalities of therapy...

Sessions

Sessions are usually one-to-one and held in my private consulting room in Lichfield, Staffordshire (see picture). Initially I like to speak to prospective clients briefly on the phone, before we meet, so if you contact me via this website please do include a number for me to call you on. If we agree to work together sessions will usually be face-to-face and will last for 50 minutes. At the end of each session we will discuss whether you wish to book another session and we will review, perhaps every three or four session, how you feel the work is progressing. I will never insist that you book further sessions - you are completely in control of how frequently and for how long you work with me and I like to ensure that you feel able to discuss this openly and honestly with me at any time.

Cancelling a session

If you have a session booked and you need to cancel for whatever reason, I would ask that you do this at least 24 hours in advance, otherwise I reserve the right to charge for the missed session.

Ethics and conduct

As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I and my practice are subject to both an "Ethical Framework for Good Practice" and a "Professional Conduct Procedure" which ensure that I abide by an accepted and approved code of conduct and accountability. Further information on both the ethical framework and the professional code, which includes a standard Complaints Procedure, can be found by visiting www.bacp.co.uk.

Confidentiality

Everything that we discuss during a session is totally confidential and remains strictly between the two of us, subject to one or two exceptions which are there primarily for your own safety; I will discuss these further with you when we first meet and will always ensure that you are happy to accept them and proceed with the work before we continue. Any information about you or notes that I keep regarding your sessions is also confidential and will always be stored in a non-identifiable way. If you do not want anyone to know that you are working with me then that too is fine and we will discuss how we can ensure that this happens before we start to work together.
